Address not found in the widget: what to do

An address not found problem shows up in one of 2 ways. Either the address never appears in the suggestion list, or it appears but the map says Building not found at this address. The fixes are different, so start by working out which one you have.

Address not found in the suggestion list

  • Start with the house number, then the street name. Suggestions only list street addresses, not businesses or cities.
  • Check the spelling, and try the street type both ways, such as St and Street.
  • Leave off the unit number, then add it back once the street address shows.
  • Make sure the property is in the US or Canada. Other countries aren't supported.
  • Very new addresses may not be in Google's address data yet.

If you see "Address search is unavailable right now", the search service didn't answer. Wait a moment and type again. If you see "We couldn't load that address", pick the suggestion again.

When the map says the building was not found

The address was found, but RoofSell couldn't find a building outline it trusts at that spot. Common causes:

  • The house is new, or the area isn't fully mapped yet.
  • The only mapped building nearby is a small structure some distance from the address, which is more likely a neighbor's shed than the house.
  • The mapped outline is far larger or smaller than what Google measured there, for example a whole row of buildings mapped as one.

When this happens, the widget stops at the map. The homeowner can't draw the roof by hand, and no lead is created, so you won't hear about it unless they contact you.

What you can do about it

  • Put your phone number and a contact form near the widget, so homeowners with an unmapped address can still reach you.
  • Ask the homeowner to try the same address without a unit number, if they used one.
  • Measure these jobs the usual way, on site or with a measurement report. Rep Quotes uses the same detection, so it can't build a quote for that address either.
